The Elkins Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners will hold its annual public forum on Wednesday, March 20 at 7 p.m. (not 6 p.m., as announced previously).

Members of the public are invited to ask questions, share ideas and concerns, and learn about city recreation operations and opportunities.

The forum will be held in council chambers on the second floor of Elkins City Hall.

The water department is replacing a valve on John Street, which will be closed from Third Street to the federal building’s parking entrance. Water will be off until 12:00 p.m., as follows:

  • On Randolph Ave. from Park St. to Henry Ave.
  • On Third St. from Henry Ave. to Randolph Ave.
  • On Second St. from Henry Ave. To John St.
  • On John St. from Henry Ave to Third St.

At its meeting last night, the Elkins Board of Canvassers declared the results of the 2013 election; new totals for contested races are shown below. The changed vote totals are a result of the board’s decisions to accept and count some provisional ballots after reviewing the circumstances of each case. These changes were not large enough to affect the outcome of any of the races.

Vote tallies will not become official until the canvassing board certifies them. The canvassing board will convene to certify the results at 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 14.

At its meeting of Thursday, March 14, the canvassing board certified the results declared on March 11. The above results are now official. Results in all races are available from the city clerk’s office upon request.

Note

Vote tallies will not become official until the canvassing board certifies them (after various steps, including considering any provisional ballots). The canvassing board will convene to declare the results on Monday, March 11, and the earliest date that the canvassing board can certify the results is March 13.
